Jewelry Care Instructions
The cold hard truth about tarnish and jewelry
While silver is most often associated with tarnish, all precious metals will tarnish or corrode over time.
Jewelry tarnish is caused when the surface of the metal comes into contact with body oils, makeup, sulfur, sweat, perfumes, deodorants, lotions, and other external substances.
A side note about our oxidized jewelry, the original metal color underneath will begin to show with wear. This is true of all oxidized jewelry; it is not a permanent color but a patina that will change uniquely and over time with you. Hammer marks, stamps and patterns that are protected from rubbing will remain dark. To oxidize, a liver of sulfur is used and then sealed with museum/gallery wax (you'll never feel or see the wax) to increase the longevity of the patina.
General Care Instructions
-
Remove jewelry when showering or bathing. This is particularly important when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water.
-
Avoid wearing jewelry when doing physical work such as housekeeping, gardening or exercise.
-
Never expose jewelry to household cleaning products, especially bleach and highly reactive solutions.
-
Avoid spraying perfume, hairspray on the gemstones as it jeopardizes the integrity of the material.
-
Remove jewelry when applying make-up, creams to avoid the residue getting into the texture or gemstone setting. Any residue will dull the shine of your jewelry.
- Keep away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
